The Formula Behind This Calculator
Required Final Score = (Target Grade − Current Grade × (1 − Final Weight)) ÷ Final Weight
Worked Example
Suppose your current grade is 88%, the final exam is worth 25% of your course grade, and you want a 90% overall.
- 1 − 0.25 = 0.75
- 88 × 0.75 = 66
- 90 − 66 = 24
- 24 ÷ 0.25 = 96%
You'd need a 96% on the final exam to reach a 90% overall course grade.
Predicting Your Grade From a Hypothetical Score
The reverse question works too: if you already know roughly what you might score on the final, you can predict your overall course grade before the exam.
Predicted Grade = Current Grade × (1 − Final Weight) + Final Score × Final Weight

What If the Required Score Is Over 100%?
