Quiz Average Formula

Quiz Average = (Sum of Counted Quiz Scores) ÷ (Number of Counted Quizzes)

Worked Example: With and Without Dropping

Quiz scores: 80, 70, 90, 60

  • No drop: (80 + 70 + 90 + 60) ÷ 4 = 75%
  • Drop the lowest (60): (80 + 70 + 90) ÷ 3 = 80%

Dropping a low score has the biggest effect when one result sits far below the rest — dropping a 45 from a set of 80s moves the average sharply, while dropping an 84 from an already-high set barely changes it. Compare both outcomes before assuming a drop policy will meaningfully help.

What If My Quizzes Are Weighted Differently?

Some courses count later quizzes more heavily than early ones, or weight a midterm-style quiz differently from short weekly ones. If that applies to your course, enter a weight alongside each quiz score — the calculator will compute a weighted average instead of a simple one. If every quiz counts equally, leave weight blank and it defaults to a simple average.
